HOLY SMOKES!!! I absolutely LOVED this little novella so much!! I mean what's not to love?? An entire series centered around irresistibly hot firefighters who exemplify selfless service!?! Point of Origin is the first installment in the "Legacy" series, delivering a breathtakingly heartfelt second chance romance that left me totally enamored. The beautifully flawed main characters, with their relatable struggles, simmering sexual tension and undeniable chemistry, effortlessly draw readers into emotionally investing in their journey. Amidst the turmoil of angst and heartbreak, this narrative also delivers sizzling spicy scenes and genuine expressions of love, creating a compelling blend of passion and emotion. Rebecca Yarros has masterfully crafted a story that will leave an unforgettable impression on the soul. It is a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit, guaranteed to leave you breathless and longing for more!! 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

In Legacy, Colorado, their legacy is simple-fire and heartbreak.Sebastian embodies both according to Emerson. Because he was her confidant, first love, and her entire world until he became her absence. It's been a decade since the wildfire ravaged their quaint town, claiming the lives of their fathers and their elite hotshot crew. Six years since Bash vanished, taking Emerson's heart with him. She received no explanations or farewells. Now he is back, battling to rebuild his father's firefighting crew. One glance, and Emerson is left breathless. One touch, and he's relentless. And if Emerson isn't careful, he'll burn her in flames once more.

In summary, this delightful second chance romance is a perfect blend of sweetness, spice, and heartwarming moments that kept me fully engrossed from beginning to end. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and it deserves all the stars!! 💫💫💫💫💫

Wait wait wait...let me guess. The hero leaves without a word for some selfless reason but never stopped loving the heroine. However, he also never stopped sticking his dick into other women during the separation.

So. Fucking. Sick. Of. This.

4.5 - "You were my wildest dream, and for a while, you came true." Stars!

A new series by Rebecca Yarros, about men who fight fire… SIGN. ME. UP! And although Point of Origin is only novella length, it didn’t disappoint with Emerson and Bash’s second chance reconnection.

Sebastian Vargas left town six years ago, to take his place on a Hotshot team in another state. Problem is the night before he took the virginity of the girl he loved, and then left her in his bed the following morning without telling her where he was going.

He’d been formidable in high school, intimidating in college, but no he was just… massive.

As you would expect Emerson Kendrick, was less than impressed with his departure especially as it necessitated her having to sneak out of not only his bed, but his mother’s house, and he has made absolutely no effort to make contact with her in the intervening years.

"You’re asking this town to bleed when there’s almost nothing left to give."

"I’m asking this town to breathe, to live again."

But change is afoot in the town of Legacy and not all of it is being well received by it's residents and council members. Especially, after it has taken eleven years for it to finally get back on it's feet after an uncontrollable wild fire burnt it to the ground, with the financial support of unknown company Legacy LLC, many of the towns shops and residences have been rebuilt. A fire that also took the lives of pretty much the whole team of Legacies Hotshots. Two of those men being Bash and Emmy’s fathers.

"I always knew where you were."

Sexy hot between Bash and Emmy, and a great introduction to the town and people of Legacy I really enjoyed this novella. Rebecca has laid a solid foundation to build and expand a series that has huge potential going forwards.

Point of Origin offers a strong and promising start to Rebecca Yarros’ Legacy series. I love a firefighter and here we have several, who bring huge future potential for the hotshots of Legacy, Colorado.

description

Everything I could want from a full-length read is packed into this novella with a story which was sexy, heartfelt and full of hope. Both Emmy and Bash have suffered the loss of their fathers in the wildfire that obliterated Legacy several years prior, but both are incredibly strong-willed and determined that the town can be home to another crew of hotshots, made up of the family members of those who never came home that day.

"I won’t be sorry for helping you bring a piece of them back to us."

Rebecca Yarros has the ability to take her reader on an emotional journey with characters to become invested and a good dose of heat added to the mix. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this series develops.

Tropes;
Second Chance
Small Town Romance
Dual POV

Second chance romance is very hit or miss for me, so the things I disliked about this book is generally down to personal preference.

The main thing I don’t like with second chance, is when the lust and sexual feelings get in the way of actually repairing their relationship and fixing what one person did to hurt the other. It automatically puts me off when the only thing both characters can think of is how hot the other one makes them.

I want to see grovelling, character development, relationship development and heartwarming and tender moments. Yes we all like a spicy scene, but for a second chance book I prefer that the character and relationship growth is the main focus rather than their lust towards each other.

I also wasn’t a huge fan of the hero in this book, but again I think this is also down to personal preference. I don’t mind an alpha male hero but this dude was way too alpha for my liking.

I did like that we got to see the characters from Reason to Believe but that was pretty much it🫣

Point of Origin is a great introduction to the Legacy series. A second chance novella. Fast paced. I liked not only Bash and Emerson but also the side characters. I’m excited to read the upcoming novel Reason To Believe cause this novella has laid a good foundation for something amazing.

Oh wow... This book was night and day compared to Ignite. I had no clue when I started to read Ignite that there was another book before it. I really like to read series books in order. So I started to read this book right away.

All I have to say is.... I'm so glad I read Ignite first!
Because if I had read this book first... I would have never given Ignite a chance at all!
Oh man... I was not feeling the Main characters at all. And I mean right from the beginning too.
The only part I liked was just hearing the set up for the Legacy crew. All the guys coming together for it in the names of their fathers.
But that's it!

I like strong female leads. And I did not feel Emmy was strong at all. She gives the guy she loves (Bash) her V-card...& how does he treat her after? He leaves her naked in his moms house and never contacts her again!
Yup... Nothing for six years!!!
6 years goes by and just by accident he sees her again. Tells her that he planned his trip back in town hoping she would be gone. He wasn't planning to see her or talk to her at all!
But yet.. She's so memorized by him. And she can't stop lusting after him! Ughhh no!
I also hate how 6 years past and she rather be alone... Then date and be with other people! That just kills me in female leading characters!

But not contacting Emmy for 6 years all melts away in 4 days. Yes Bash has been back in town for 4 days and she lets him kiss her.
Ughhhh... I could not even enjoy it. Because I was just so annoyed with Emmy.
I'm sorry... But if a guy did that to me... It would take more than 4 days to let him even in my personal space to just talk!

So for a good chunk of the book... He keeps telling her that he's not staying in town. He's going back to California. I seriously don't even understand why he's pushing her away the way he is. He just lumps her in with everything the town represent to him. The hurt of loosing his father... The pain the town went through when the incident happen.
So he must shatter her every possible way.

I'm sorry but Bash I felt had no respect for Emmy and I felt Emmy had no respect for herself because she settled to be Bash's friends with benefits.
It just didn't work for me at all.

I will read the next book in the series because I loved Ignite. I want to read the next book to see who's it going to be about.

Point of Origin – After six years, Sebastian Vargas is home, fighting to restart the elite team of firefighters known as the Legacy Hotshot Crew, but it’s the girl he left behind that could leave him burned.

Point of Origin was a great start to the new Legacy Series by the talented Rebecca Yarros.

From the first page I was hooked, I couldn't put it down.
The storyline is entertaining, emotional and heartfelt with great relatable and likable characters .
It will bring out all the feels...

Point of Origin was Emerson and Sebastian/Bash's story.
Both are passionate and fierce characters that you can't help but fall in love with.
I loved watching these two come together and open themselves up for love the second time round. Bash and Emerson had such a deep connection, I could feel it from the first moment they see each other again.
And the chemistry between them? SMOKING!!! *fans self*

You will definitely want to read this one, I highly recommend it.

HOT GUY ALERT!

This is a great start to a promising new series - Legacy.
I mean, what's not to like? A whole series dedicated to hot firefighters? Hell yes! I am in!
If you are looking for a small town, second chance romance, look no further.

I read it in one sitting and I really wish there was more to this story.
This was basically an introduction. We get to see a whole background picture of little town called Legacy.
Bash and Emerson caught my attention right from the start.
They grew up together and were each others first loves in every sense of the way, but Bash's poor choices kept them apart. He left their small town and never looked back.
Six years after, he is back and their connection is still palpable and real.
Can they heal and mend their broken hearts?
Grab your copy and find out!
Overall, this novella is well written and we got to meet quite few interesting secondary characters who will get their own stories soon.
I can't wait to read next book in the series.

Point of Origin was my first book by Rebecca Yarros, but it won't be the last. This is the prequel to her new Legacy series and I can't wait to read the rest of it. Six years after Sebastian (Bash) Vargas walked away from the town of Legacy and left Emerson (Emmy) Kendrick with a broken heart he's back with the hopes of honoring the legacy of the hot shot firefighters who lost their lives including his father and Emmy's father.

One thing I really appreciated about this story is despite their volatile history, these two managed to work together, rekindle their romance (even knowing Bash had no intention of staying), and both realized that they might not ever find someone who made them feel they way they felt about each other. While there were times of sadness and even some angry words these two managed to not only work through their issues, but did so respectfully.

As this was the prequel to the series we are introduced to a lot of characters including many of the hot shot team that Bash was assembling and some rather interesting people in this small town. If this prequel is an indication of what's to come in this new series, I expect a whole lot of sexy heat, intriguing characters and some very interesting and entertaining love stories.

I finished this story by sheer force of will. I should have stayed far, far away after reading the blurb, but I couldn't help myself. I enjoyed Full Measures (even though the H in that story was sort of a jerk, too), so I decided to give this a shot.

Let's just say I couldn't stand the MCs. There actually wasn't too much character development, but I didn't like the little there was. The h was ridiculous in how she loved but hated the H, was so attracted to him, and "gosh, why does he have to be so hot?!" Ugh. And the H was the worst. "I was young and made a mistake. I was selfish. Then I proceeded to have tons of meaningless sex to try to forget you. Please forgive me and let me use you for sex until I leave in a couple weeks?" Uh, no.

I do enjoy Yarros' writing. It's engaging, although I could do without the foul language and the explicit sex. That's easy enough to skim over, though. Unfortunately, you can't skim over an h who makes decisions with her libido and an H who has no respect for her. If MCs for the rest of this series are like the ones in this story, I'm out.

A short novella about Emerson and Bash, set in the world of Legacy. It's a second chance, first responder, small town romance.
It was okay but nothing to write home about. I found it a bit cheesy to be honest.

This is the first book (a novella) in the Legacy series, a gorgeously emotional second-chance romance that brought the feels, and I loved it!

Sebastian (Bash) and Emerson grew up together in the small town of Legacy, Colorado. Their lives were touched by tragedy when the local team of hotshot firefighters were killed while defending the town from an inferno – their fathers included – but they found deep, true, all-consuming love… until Bash left town without notice, never looking back.

Six years later, and Bash is back in town to rebuild his father’s crew, but he faces opposition from the council, who do not want to open the town up for devastation again. And for the first time since he left, he has to face Emerson.

I’d only ever left her physically. Even six years couldn’t rip her out of my soul, and she was here, more incredible than ever and only a touch away.

The intensity between Bash and Emerson is palpable from the moment they are reunited. She’s still understandably hurt and angry, but there’s no denying the connection between them, and Bash makes it clear to her that the feelings he had for her are just as strong as ever.

“You and I are inevitable, and you know it. We always have been. Gasoline and fire, remember.”
… “I’m not denying that. But we both know that I’m the one who ends up a giant pile of ashes, so forgive me if I’m not quite ready to let you burn me again.”

It’s a quick read, and there’s not a lot of time for build-up, but all of the emotion that I love about second-chance romance is there. It’s intense and passionate, and I could feel it all, and loved watching them give into everything that is still between them. And oh holy God, is it sexy!

“This pull between us? That fire that catches and burns us from the first touch? That’s not even a tenth of how deeply, dangerously, completely I love you.”

The love story is so beautiful, and I was fully invested in Bash and Emerson as a couple. But they have hurdles to cross – not only what happened between them in the past, but also what they want for the future. In the meantime, he’s got to get the team together, and there’s no guarantee he can even do that. But Bash, Emerson and their friends are determined to carry on the legacy of their fathers, and watching them come together and fight for it is awesome to see.

This book is a wonderful setup for the ongoing story off the series. I loved the love story so much, and enjoyed getting to know loved Bash, Emerson and their friends, and can’t wait for more stories in the series.

Such a great read, I loved it! 5 stars.

While I definitely just read this to chase that post-Fourth Wing high, this was overall still a cute and lovely little story.

It's definitely different from Fourth Wing but I'm already starting to identify and love the author's writing style so I think I'll keep reading her backlist until Iron Flame comes out:)

I'm honestly not sure how this book has been sitting on my iPad for over a year now. I love Rebecca's books. I tend to devour them the minute I get the ARCs or buy them. But, here we are... I'm not all that sad, however, because I did give me a good excuse to binge both novellas over the weekend.

Second chance romances are my jam, so I was excited to see that's what this first Legacy story was about. I really liked Emmy, but it took me some time to warm up to Bash. Honestly, I'm growing a little tired of this whole thing with men sleeping with anything that moves while he and his end game girl are separated. No matter the excuse or the situation, it wears me out. I get numbing the pain of loss but even that has to stop sometime, right? Ugh. Anyhow. Bash and Emmy. They were so perfect together it hurt my heart knowing they were apart for so long. It was wonderful to see them get a second chance. They had tons of chemistry and the feelings between them were so very real. Their story was sweet and sexy, and packed a bit of an emotional punch.

Beyond the romance, I love the idea of this series — a group of young adults whose parents died fighting a massive fire have become firefighters themselves and are trying to resurrect the base in their hometown. It's heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. The Legacy series is off to a strong start for me and I can't wait to see where it goes after the two novellas.

FAVORITE QUOTES

"Stop looking at me like that, Emmy. I'm trying to give you space, but if I see that little pink tongue one more time, I'm sucking it into my mouth."

"You're practically screaming for me, and I've barely touched you."

Fire and gasoline. God, I was desperate to burn.

I forgot this novella was out glad to have rectified that. Love a good second chance romance and a good hero. Rebecca Yarros writing always has a way of getting my attention. Her heroes are usually the ones in the line of fire, here that is pretty literal. Firefighters are always first on the the scene and a recent huge fire currently brings home how brave these people are.

Legacy is rebuilding after a huge fire that burnt most of the town. Much like any place trying to get back on their feet it's hard work, some left and others stayed. Emerson was determined to help the town to regain the shine it had. She stayed after the collapse and through the reconstruct. Although she was burned she kept on.

Bash is back and with that the drama to get a team of hotshots back to honor the lost and to see it doesn't happen again. Bash and Emmy are part of a legacy of children who had parents on the previous hotshot team and this bonded them years ago and still does. So much history between these two, plus hurt, anger some good. Can't help to feel their pull towards each other though right from the start. Lingering feelings, memories with lots of pent up heat and chemistry. There's some angst but not too much. It's finding their way through the new emotions and the new team that will be the problem to new ground.

This was a solid novella and start to what will be a meaty kind of series. I see lots of backstory and possible couple already. It's going to be interesting. I'm looking forward to the next book it looks like it will be interesting. The side characters sound like fun already.

I went about this series a little backwards, reading Reason to Believe first, then a bonus novella - Basket Day - which I think came with the author’s newsletter, that was about the couple in Point of Origin. So I decided I might as well go back and read the two prequel novellas because I really liked Reason to Believe and am really hoping there is more to come in this series.

But the first thing I want to make note of is that this prequel novella was written seven years ago. SEVEN!!! What the heck is taking so long to get this series written??? Granted, Ms. Yarros has written about 10 other books, but still! The premise of this series is SO good and I really hope we get more soon.

Anyway…

I am a HUGE fan of the second chance love story, so there was almost zero chance I wasn’t going to enjoy Point of Origin. Sebastian was three years older than Emerson and waited until she was 18 before letting things go all the way between them. But as young men tend to do, afterwards he made a really bad choice and left Emerson behind without a single word, breaking her heart.

Now it’s six years later and Bash has secretly spent a lot of time and money on a plan to resurrect the town’s hotshot firefighting team that was killed a decade ago. What he doesn’t plan, and is trying to avoid, is running into Emerson. But when he does, he realizes he’s never stopped loving her.

The thing about this book is that it was exceptionally well written. Yet…I didn’t really like the way the story went. The hopeless romantic in me wants a couple to be pining for each other during their whole separation, not with a bunch of other people while they were apart. Was it as bad as I thought it would be after some of the other reviews? No, it wasn’t. But I still couldn’t help feeling disappointed about the hero’s behavior.

Another thing I think is interesting - it’s fun to go back and see an author’s growth and to see what was considered romantic seven years ago...but maybe not so much now. For instance, the hero and heroine would get into an argument and the hero would pick the heroine up and throw her over his shoulder and carry her away so they could have a private conversation. Not cool, dude, not cool. That's an alpha male move, and this author doesn't typically write her heroes that way (at least now, anyway).

That being said, I liked how the hero knew what he did was wrong and expressed his remorse for hurting the heroine. I wish the heroine had made the hero grovel a bit more, but this was a novella and there was a lot to get through to set up this series. Even so, I didn’t feel short changed in the development of either Bash and Emerson’s relationship or the series.

And I’ll say it again…I hope there are more stories to come in the Legacy series, and they come soon!

The ratings pulled me in and thinking that it was a novella made the deal sweeter because of how easy it would be to finish the story and be in time for dinner.

I couldn't have been more wrong and struggled to read on because the main characters irked me so much - one simply allowed lust to overcome six years of heartbreak while another swanned in like he owned the town when he'd cut and left like nothing - that I barely made it through at all. That Emerson so easily let Bash back into her pants after he cockily assumed she'd be his again while admitting he never really wanted to see her at all left an awfully foul taste in my mouth. That both of them fell into bed so easily made me wonder at the (lack of) self-respect Emerson had and the (lack of) integrity Bash displayed around the town he'd never wanted to be in. If this is story is in some way, an indirect stab at forgiveness and a definition of unconditional, everlasting love that follows a loose-playing partner (whether he stays or goes), I don't think I want to be a part of it at all.

Yet the premise of the story itself was interesting, which left me a little torn. Should I really give the rest of the series another go? Maybe that's better left answered another day, after my personal outrage dies down.
